Nottingham have signed New-Zealand-born hooker Matt Holloway.

Holloway, who turns 27 next week, joins from Southland in his homeland and has signed until the end of the season.

He was previously on the books of Premiership side Wasps in 2010 and qualifies as a UK registered player as he holds a British passport.

Director of rugby Glenn Delaney said: "He's played a fair amount of National Provincial Championship rugby and has a good balance of youth and experience."

Holloway signing vital - Delaney

Holloway becomes the third hooker at the Green & Whites, joining Joe Duffey and Ollie Taylor who have been sharing the duties for most of the season.

Delaney added: "We recognised a need to strengthen at hooker prior to the closing of the transfer window [27 January].

"Joe has played every game this season, most of them in the starting line-up whilst Ollie is another strong hooker, we felt we needed one more hooker to see us through to the end of the season.

"We've got six more league games before the play-offs and then hopefully a series of tough knockout matches."

Holloway will be available to face Doncaster in Nottingham's next Championship fixture on Sunday, 15 January.
