Wales Sevens were beaten in their IRB Japan Sevens Cup quarter-final to eventual Cup champions Australia

The Welsh romped to the top of Pool C to set up a last eight clash with the Aussies but Australia raced into a 21-7 lead over Wales in Tokyo.

Sean McMahon and Daniel Yakopo gave Australia an lead before Blues teenager Harry Robinson's reply for Wales.

Shannon Walker restored Australia's advantage but Richard Smith did score a second-half consolation for Wales.

Australia went on to beat England in the semi-finals and Samoa in the final to clinch their first tournament title on this season's IRB Sevens circuit.

Wales had earlier beaten Argentina 17-5, Kenya 22-0 and Russia 10-7 as they won their pool in convincing style.
