Jersey boss Ben Harvey has confirmed that South African centre Donovan Sanders has left the club.

News of Sanders' retirement comes at the end of a summer which saw the islanders become fully professional.

He was an instrumental part of the club's to the Championship, featuring more than 100 times in a Jersey shirt.

"Donovan is hugely responsible for where we are today," reflected Harvey.

"He came to us four years ago and has seen three promotions in his time at the club.

"He and I sat down, other things were happening in his life, and that (retirement) was the decision that he made."

Meanwhile, Harvey revealed that the islanders have signed prop Nick Selway.

The former Cinderford forward has been brought in after front-row Jon Brennan was injured (calf) in the pre-season defeat by Leicester Tigers.

Selway is likely to make his debut against Coventry in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
