Schmidt explains 'tight' Irish calls

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt says Gordon D'Arcy's stomach upset earlier this week opened the door to Luke Marshall being handed a Six Nations start against Scotland.

"It just meant that Luke Marshall had a bit more [training] volume under his belt so we decided to go with Luke," added Schmidt, who also has included another Ulsterman Andrew Trimble in his backline.

"It's a great opportunity for Andrew Trimble and I think he deserves it and has earned it. He has been in pretty good form for Ulster."
