Ulster back row forward Nick Williams faces an internal inquiry by the Irish province over his alleged "unauthorised absence".

It is understood that the Kiwi travelled home to New Zealand last week, thereby ruling himself out of the Pro12 win over Treviso in Italy.

Williams signed a fresh contract last October, which extended his stay with Ulster until June 2016.
