Marco Caputo has resigned as Leinster scrum coach two weeks after the departure of head coach Matt O'Connor.

The Australian took the scrum role last summer when Greg Feek replaced John Plumtree in Ireland's set-up.

"I believe that my decision will give the new coaching and management staff the best chance of a fresh start for the new season," said Caputo.

O'Connor left by "mutual agreement" following Leinster's failure to finish inside the Pro12 top four.

"Over the last few weeks, I took the time to seek out the opinions and thoughts of various people both inside and outside the Leinster Rugby environment about my future," added Caputo.

The former Australia international played alongside O'Connor with the Brumbies.

Leinster are still seeking a permanent replacement for former Leicester coach O'Connor.

Chief executive Mick Dawson said Leinster are in "no rush" to find a full-time replacement for the Australian, with Leo Cullen installed as temporary head coach.
