Doak counts cost of Ulster injuries

Ulster coach Neil Doak says the team have had "a war of attrition" with injuries sustained by Ireland players at the World Cup.

The province's hopes of winning silverware this season have been severely dented by confirmation of a six-month lay-off for wing Tommy Bowe, who had knee surgery on Monday.

Centre Jared Payne will be out for two or three months as he recovers from a foot operation with lock Iain Henderson also due to go under the knife for surgery on a hand injury.

"It definitely is a blow to us to be without that experience and quality for such a long period of time," said Doak.
