As much as I rate JJ, he's been poor all season at Bath...don't think he's scored a try yet and until Scotland rather mediocre. Great man management from EJ however but JJ needs to step up in the big matches and not just against Italy and Scotland, and an injury ravaged Scotland at that, he's been well shackled otherwise. Hope he comes through against the Irish though.
@259.A lot depends on whether the player in front of the ball runs across the ball itself (left to right or right to left) whilst the ball is in the player's hands. Typically, if this isn't the case and the player doesn't deliberately take out an opposition player it's not obstruction/crossing/penalty
259 SymmsLooks like a dummy run to me. Not his fault that the defender fell for it.
Can someone explain to me why Nathan Hughes was not judged to have obstructed the Scottish defence for the try by Jonathan Joseph in the article? Great pace and side step by Joseph but the space was initially made by Hughes taking out a defender. Or is that legal these days?
As long as 'defense first' players like Lydiate are nowhere near the selection I honestly don't mind who goes...Gatland needs to pick available players based on fitness, skill and form...if he does that I couldn't give a monkeys where they come from! But I maintain that you won't beat NZ by playing to tackle them death...whoever goes needs to be offer something ball in hand.
Dont get the premature criticism of selection based on prv history.2013 Wales won the 6 nations and there were 15 welsh, 10 English, 9 Irish &3 scots selected initially. Look back to 2005 and only 10 of Wales grand slam team made the tour but 22 English went (8 in test team). As a Brit I supported them regardless.As a reminder we won in Aus.Let's just get behind whoever wears the shirt...
@255 yup I'm off! red carding myself!
@253 Bedtime maybe?
@252. So you do.I think that Murray is much more mature/controlled than Webb (who I rate highly) but has a touch of the sulky teenager about him. I always fear that Webb is as likely to give away a pen, 10 yards or a yellow card as he is make a great break.On last weeks showing JJ (partially due to the modest number of class centres) has put his hand up; he truly is the silkiest of runners.
news england win u20 grand slamfrance beat wales u20 teletubbys 40 to 20england women...who cares?
@250 I do have sexton at 10, I was tempted to put Murray at 9 as he would be my 1St choice but Webb is playing very well, I really rate his defensive capabilities, from my view it's a coin toss. I was also tempted by mako and furlong as their ability around the park is outstanding.however I'm not accustomed to the dark arts, and scrummaging should be the foundations as set piece will be key.
England will beat Ireland, Scotland will again flatter to deceive and it depends which French team turns up. In relation to Lions England should have 8 starters, vunipola x 2, Itoje, launchberry, Farrell, Joseph, Watson and George . Lawes or Kruis will be able replacements with Daly an outside bet. It is about what you can do now not what happened in the past
