Cornish Pirates coach Gavin Cattle says their game against Doncaster on Sunday will decide whether they can finish in the Championship play-off places.

After a 39-10 defeat at leaders London Irish, Pirates are nine points behind their next opponents, who are fourth.

"At the start of the season survival was the main thing, but we knew we had more than that," Cattle said.

"If we make the top four it'd be a massive achievement, but I think we've got to keep our feet grounded as well."

Pirates are unable to win promotion as their facilities do not meet Premiership requirements, and from next season there will be no play-offs, with the team that finishes top of the second tier going up automatically.

"It's a pivotal game - that game will decide whether we make the top four or not," added Cattle to BBC Radio Cornwall.

"It comes down to that - seasons normally do, and this is going to be the pivotal point.

"I think we've made massive strides this year - to be in and around it is a credit to these boys, and we're looking to push on from that in the future."
