Feel for the Scots and a few of the English players as there were clearly a lot of marginal calls that have gone the way of the welsh players. To my mind a bit of unconscious bias. My real concern is that if shanklin is right and the welsh players are better than the scots, does that mean that the welsh coaches are not up to standard??? Good job none of them are on tour then ;-(
Gatland was criticised for his selections during last Lions tour but came home with series win. This was largely down to average opposition (by their own standard)NZ are not your average side by any standard, whereas the Lions selection is very average (by their own standard) By the law of averages it's not looking good! RIP WG
@1767 Scotland: That's a bit unfair I feel. You could have said the same about Andy Robinson when he coached Scotland, or Eddie Jones during the summer taking England down to Australia and coming home with a 3-0 series win against his home nation. That are all paid professional coaches. To suggest he might 'throw' the series as a coach is pretty poor isn't it?
1771...........Ya need to go and look up the difference between Face and Opinion. Fact: I don't agree with any of your Opinions.
Fact: Lions as a concept is as popular as ever. Majority of fans love it, players still see it as pinnacle of their career. Fact: squad has been picked and with a couple of exceptions most pundits agree it's a great squad. Fact: whatever the coaching set up or squad selected, it's always going to be a tough tour. Fact: if you don't like the concept of the squad, don't watch it.
Any comparison between playing the AllBlacks and the last tour to Australia is nonsense. The All Blacks have beaten Australia by 20 points or more 5 times in a row

Classhalfbacks I see your point but Wales were very competitive v all teams except their shocker v Scots and came close to winning each of them: individual slips here and there costing them as much as that one did ireland. Also wales were terrific v ireland and england. So they have the players to pull these games out just like eng and ire. Just down to game management as a team then
If you are passionate about your Country, can you really take a bunch of foreigners home to try and humiliate your fellow brothers not to mention your own son. You can spout forth about being professional about your job but bottom line he's a Kiwi. When beating Australia that was already in his blood.
The team has been announced - take it or leave it. Whatever your nationality, passion and loyalty for certain players or countries. Isn't it time we ALL come together and support our Lions team! The opposing teams will be having a field day with all this criticism and comments. C'mon the Lions!
At least no Ross Ford.100+ caps and still rubbish.
I had hoped for 3-4 from Scotland, no more. Disappointed not to see Watson there, as I think he'd have done well in this environment. In other areas, we're improving, but not quite stand-out. I thought the Grays would come up short, but then thought same for Wyn Jones (and Biggar at 10). But it is a fact in a tight call coaches will go with ones they know best, and no Scots on the coaching squad.
1761 Craigo.WWII?if so what age are you? I am giving you my view on your ridiculous statement. My team Edinburgh have lost EIGHT straight games, Glasgow are having an average season.Yes Watson, Barclay, Gray jnr, Maitland, Russell, Jones all had a shout but post 6Ns with the exception of Barclay (Scarlets) Maitland (Sarries) we've been off the boil.Certain we'll see a few scots called up yet
1740@Nimrod2"The uncomfortable truth is that more people are coming round to the view that the Lions is an anachronism in the professional game."You are not the sharpest tool in the box are you. Firstly who are these "people", where is the proof?. Secondly using a word out of context to qualify your flimsy pitiful attempts to disguise your "Welsh Malignity" is equally pitiful and transparent
1760. Posted by tequilasurferPlayed rugby my whole life. Fought for this country, for all the good it did me. So DO NOT presume to lecture me on my views and opinions..."laddie"
