Eliza Downey's try couldn't prevent Ulster losing against Leinster in Dromore

Holders Leinster earned a 34-10 win over Ulster in Sunday's Women's Interprovincial opener at Dromore.

Aimee Clarke scored three of Leinster's tries with Michelle Claffey, Susan Vaughan and Lindsay Peat also notching touchdowns for the winners.

Ulster's tries came from ex-Ireland winger Eliza Downey and Teah Maguire.

Ulster will be back in action next Saturday when they play Munster at Garryowen while Leinster host Connacht next weekend.

Connacht earned a surprise 19-15 win over Munster in Saturday's game in Galway after coming back from 10-0 down to triumph.

Ulster produced early pressure against Leinster but couldn't turn that possession into points as Clarke's first try and Peat's score left the visitors 10-0 ahead at the break.

Claffey's score extended Leinster's lead, with Aine Donnelly converting, before Downey opened Ulster's account.

As Cooke hooker Beth Cregan impressed, Ulster kept battling but Vaughan's try effectively ended the home team's faint hopes.

Teenage winger Clarke's two tries completed her hat-trick before replacement Maguire's late reply.
