Crews tested in Round the Island race
- From the section Sailing
Crews taking part in the 80th Round the Island Race have to contend with heavy seas and strong winds on the course around the Isle of Wight.
A record 1,900 boats and 16,000 sailors came from all over the UK, mainland Europe and as far away as the United States to follow the 50-nautical-mile course.
Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet raced west to The Needles, around St Catherine's Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy, before heading back into the Solent to the finish line at Cowes.
