British Olympic gold medallist Pippa Wilson has abandoned plans to compete for qualification in the Nacra 17 event for the Rio Games in 2016.

The 28-year-old was part of the gold medal-winning 'three blondes in a boat' at the 2008 Beijing Games.

Wilson had teamed up with John Gimson, who will now be partnered by Hannah Diamond, in the new multi-hull class.

Posting on Facebook, Wilson said she could not give the Olympic programme "the attention it requires".

She wrote: "It has been a wonderful journey and I have learned so much sailing these fantastic boats, but my motivations have changed."
