Swindon lost in the Elite League play-off semi-final last season

Swindon Robins speedway owner Terry Russell has said they will take part in the 2016 season despite stadium issues.

It had been feared delays to the start of stadium work could see them miss the Elite League season.

However, Russell confirmed the Robins would definitely be riding next term.

"I've had to reassure riders, I've put season tickets on sale, I've assembled a team and have declared my intention to run in the Elite League," Russell told BBC Wiltshire.

Russell said the delay in starting work on their new stadium was "to do with the design and planning of an acoustic barrier".

He added: "We hoped work would start three months ago but it hasn't happened because of this delay which is disappointing for everybody. I believe work will start in the new year."

The Robins are likely to race the first half of their home league fixtures on their current Abbey Stadium track - as construction work is being completed on their new venue next door.
