European Table Tennis: Drinkhalls target further success

Commonwealth Games gold medallists Paul and Joanna Drinkhall have the chance of securing further success for England at the European Team Championships.

The husband and wife team, who won gold at the Commonwealth Games last month, are part of a squad of eight for the event in Lisbon from 24-28 September.

England number one Liam Pitchford and 15-year-old Commonwealth silver medallist Tin-Tin Ho also feature.

Andrew Baggaley and Daniel Reed were not available for selection.

The men's squad are looking to emulate their achievement at the World Team Championships in Tokyo in May, when they won the Challenger Division to return to the top tier - the Championship Division - after a 17-year gap.

And if they repeat the feat in Portugal, they would also have the added bonus of qualifying for the inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, next summer.

England squad: Liam Pitchford, Paul Drinkhall, Sam Walker, Darius Knight, Joanna Drinkhall, Kelly Sibley, Tin-Tin Ho, Hannah Hicks.
