Serena Williams rarely gets the true credit for her achievements, and the apparent smoke screen for the criticism is her "muscles" - people may recall Venus Williams was not so muscular, hence another smoke screen was used to rain on her parades, i.e. Their dad robbed their childhood by making them playI think EVERYONE knows what the real "PROBLEM" is that so many people have with the Williams.
Serena was asked how she could serve much better than a taller ? bigger Sharapova. Yet Sharapova claimed that she would play much better if she was "built like Serena". Who is fooling who?Maria`s excuse of playing better if bigger is a crass attempt to discredit Serena and allude to the medias idiotic idea of Serena only being powerful as opposed to technically good. Be reminded of Justine Henin.

I really cant stand Sharipornova damn screeching.Serena is winner. losing is not in her vocabulary, whils the British Just produce lovable loser after lovable loser and they celebrate these lifelong losers remember Tim Henman he is now British tennis legend.don't knock Serena just because she doesn't conform to the page 3 rubbish you have been spoon fed, whilst sharapova personifies that
Maybe it's just my hayfever medicine speaking, but she could run Nadal and Djokovic close.
Neither finalist has a game that I can admire. When so much can be gained by just battering the ball as hard as possible and bludgeoning your opponent from the baseline, a huge variety of shots are never seen any more. The points spectators love are those where players have to use all the court. Tennis has to find a technical solution to shift the balance away from the pretty 1-dimensional play.
@Lord Lucan (post 27): I don't HAVE to do anything. I wrote because I wanted to. Might I point out that you don't HAVE to read if you aren't interested in my comment. You also don't HAVE to call me rude names because my opinion differs from yours, but do feel free to do so again; such is your right.
Congrats Serena. And for those posters claiming she "only" has a serve -- obviously you have no idea how much time coaches invest in training their charges to serve well - technically and effectively. There must be a good reason that stroke is generally practiced more than any other. Must be a good reason male players like Sampras and Federer are extolled for their serving prowess
Yeah n well done to Serena again. I'll carry on supportin the most talented player in the world n will always defend er against the insults n stereotypin of so many on ere who are more interested inpersonal attacks than any appreciation of tennis as a sport n er contributions to it.
I agree with 324..
@321 if that's the case, why not switch men's to best of 3 sets? They could just make the tournaments slightly longer to fit in 5 setters for women and knock off 1 or 2 of the lesser tournaments of course.
Congratulations Serena, excellence personified.Maria, great tournament until the final. She seemed unaware that she hit roughly 80% of her shots so they landed mid court on Serena's side, which meant they were always in her wheelhouse, both forehand and backhand. Serena just hit out the whole match and it was never in doubt. When Maria hit deeper,. She won 80 percent of the points.
The question about playing 5 sets always comes up so here we go... The women said years ago they are happy to play 5 sets, but the tournaments don't want it. The reason is that it would cause a massive scheduling problem trying to fit all the men's & women's best of 5 set matches inside 2 weeks. So it is not the fault of the women that they don't play best of 5.
