John McEnroe v Hawkeye. You can't be serious...!
my ulitmate final would be sampras vs federer
113, 120 and 122. The mentality of these people who watch this nonsense have the same mind skill to park their Bentleys on unmarked graves at the local cemetery. And Mike 122, my post was 112 and not 12.Ignorance in the finest form when you read your own post lad.
Well yesterday's match would be hard to beat for quality but for the purists Federer versus Laver would be my pick assuming they could compete on equal terms. The other intriguing prospect would be Becker vs Nadal - Becker would have no compunction re-arranging Nadal's bottles and calling a few balls out. Nadal would have met his match for gamesmanship.
@129 Bearing in mind the rubbish i pay my licence fee for in the other 50 weeks of the year, I'll take the tennis for just a fortnight, thankyou-besides, as EastEnders' audience share rarely, if ever, exceeds 40%, what about the 60% of the population who still have to pay for that?Anyway. Would have to be McEnroe against Becker-both at that impetuous, fearless teenage stage of their careers,
Fabulous final yesterday, both great tennis players. The match was only spoiled by the inane mumblings of Andrew Castle, who seemed to carry on making comments while moving his microphone away (PLEASE get rid of him!!). Connors added some good 'inside' knowledge.
Have to wonder if Murray has won his only Wimbledon. Even so he is a British sports hero without ever picking up a racquet again
My ultimate Wimbledon final would be Becker v Federer. Ultimate USO final would be Sampras v Nadal and ultimate French Open final would be Nadal v Borg.
Not sure I could pick ultimate finalists, regardless of the era.But my all time best Wimbledon was Goran Ivanišević in 2001, beatingJonsson, Moya, Roddick, Rusedski, Marat, Henman, then Pat Rafter in the final, as a wild card. That was the most dramatic final(s) ever, surely, and most deserved win. But, would like to see Martina vs Steffi at their best. And as a doubles team vs V&S Williams
138 - the crowd have every right to their allegiance. Paris and New York have the same loyalty to Roger. Sorry if you don't like it, but that's the way it is. Respectively they support their countrymen first, then the Fed.And as for the BBC - given that the corporation have been doing their best to downplay the Fed's accomplishments for five years, I suspect that you're incorrect there mate. :/
thank god we got a good mens game compared to that rubbish womans match yesterday. without the men a womans grand slam would not survive. its an absolute travesty they get the same amount of prize money, its laughable really
Agree with comments about the crowd today - unsporting & over-privileged. I also got the impression the BBC didn't get their preferred winner today either.Well done to both Djokovic & Federer - great match, great sportsmen, classy winner & classy loser. Feel very uplifted after that match.Djokovic is an authentic no.1
Yes a great final. Very pleased Djokovic won as he's lost so many grand slam finals lately and if if he lost that after being 5-2 up in the 4th set he might never have recovered. As it is he'll be in a great frame of mind to go on and win many more slams.
Dear sg90 - too bad you're wrong. Nadal played the same opponents, and did nothing outside of clay until 2008. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it, you fool.
Nadal v Borg
132Agree that the crowd was not good. Fed and Djoko are great sportsmen and show great respect for each other - why can't the crowd do the same ?Only thing to be said is that they're not as bad at Wimbledon as at the French
After watching another classic mens final which contrasted with yesterday's disappointing womens final (again) I think Kvitova and Bouchard should be made to hand back their prize money.Change.org anyone to reduce womens prize money for the number of sets played or made them play best of 5?
Glad Djokovic won, if only for the horrendous crowd today. Hopefully Fraud will finally stop being classed as 'GOAT' too. Won all his slams in a weak era.
I've just witnessed the dream Wimbledon final, almost on par with 2008. The only thing missing was the result I wanted, what a match.
