Britain's Andy Murray will face a reformed Marinko Matosevic when the pair meet in round two of the Australian Open on Wednesday.

Murray takes on the Australian in the second match of the day on Margaret Court Arena at around 02:00 GMT.

Matosevic, ranked 81st, was nicknamed 'Mad Dog' for a while due to his on-court outbursts and erratic behaviour.

Murray is a supporter of the 29-year-old, however, saying: "I know Marinko very well; I get on well with him."

The two men have practised together regularly and although Murray has won all three of their competitive contests, the last of which came in Perth earlier this month, the Briton will not underestimate him.

Murray's serve was impressive during his first-round win over India's Yuki Bhambri on Monday and he will be looking to repeat that performance against Matosevic.

"I need to continue serving well," said the Scot.

"That helps against whoever you're playing against. When you play against a big guy who likes to go for his shots, if you can keep good weight and depth behind your shots, that can frustrate them.

"I'll try and use some variety to throw his timing off a little bit and just continue doing what I've been doing the last few weeks.

"I've been playing very well in practice and striking the ball cleanly in the matches. If I keep that up, I'll keep getting better each round."

Matosevic once famously kicked over Rafael Nadal's water bottles in a doomed attempt to unsettle the Spaniard, but he claims those days are well behind him.

"I guess I'm maturing in my old age," he said. "I'm definitely a late bloomer. I guess mentally wise, a late bloomer in that department as well."

The Australian, who lost his first 12 Grand Slam matches before finally breaking his duck at the French Open last year and rolling around in the clay in celebration, is well aware of the task ahead of him on Wednesday.

"He's one of the best players in the world," said Matosevic.

"He's unbelievable physically. His skill level is probably second only to Roger [Federer]. He's one of the most skilful players."
