Juan Martin del Potro has undergone surgery on his left wrist for a second time in 10 months following his withdrawal from the Australian Open.

The 26-year-old returned to action in January after surgery last March, but pulled out of the tournament in Melbourne before it began.

Del Potro insisted on his Facebook page he was "more determined than ever to return to the courts".

The 2009 US Open champion said he would begin his rehabilitation in two weeks.

Since claiming the sole grand slam victory of his career to date, the Argentinian has slipped to number 276 in the world rankings.

His 2014 season ended in February because of injury to his left wrist, and he missed a similar amount of the 2010 season with an injury to his right wrist.
