Britain's Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares came through a five-hour epic to reach the last eight of the men's doubles at Wimbledon.

The third seeds and Australian Open champions beat Mate Pavic and Michael Venus 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 4-6 16-14.

Murray and Soares won the first two sets and had a break in the fifth but were pegged back and play was suspended on Monday with the score 13-13.

They wrapped up the match on Tuesday in four games.

Murray and Soares will play either eighth seeds Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock, or French pair Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in the quarter-finals.

The Australian Open was their first tournament together and their victory helped Murray become the world's top-ranked doubles player.
