Aileen Morrison finished a season-best fourth in the final race of the 2011 World Championship Series in Japan.

The Londonderry woman was third after the swim in Yokohama and she remained in contention after the bike leg.

Morrison, who aims to compete in the 2012 Olympic Games, ran the 10km run in sub 35 minutes to take fourth and just four seconds off a podium spot.

"I'm delighted with the result, it's exciting to see all the hard work with my coaches paying off," she said.

Morrison beat some of the world's best on her way to fourth place, including 2011 World Champion Helen Jenkins.

She will now move to Florida for a training camp in preparation for the Huatulco World Cup in Mexico, before finishing the season off in Korea.
