More than 1,000 fans attended a benefit match on Sunday between Wales Rugby League and Keighley Cougars held for the family of the late Danny Jones.

The Wales international died aged 29 from a heart problem after collapsing during a Keighley game in May.

Wales also used the game at Cougar Park as a useful warm-up for their European Championship game with France on 30 October at Cardiff Arms Park.

Coach John Kear saw his side win 36-20, having led 20-8 at half-time.

A nasty injury to Wales' Matty Barron put a dampener on the match, after he broke his leg in two places in an accidental clash in the seventh minute and the game was stopped for more than 20 minutes while he was treated.

Wales began their European Championship campaign with a 18-12 win over Scotland in Wrexham on 16 October.

After facing France, Wales' campaign ends with an away game in Ireland on 7 November.
