Mayer wins men's downhill gold medal
Austria's Matthias Mayer was the surprise winner of the men's downhill in Sochi.
The 23-year-old Olympic debutant put in a storming performance in the second half of his run to post a time of two minutes, 6.23 seconds.
Italy's Christof Innerhofer finished 0.06 seconds adrift to win silver, with Kjetil Jansrud of Norway third, ahead of compatriot Aksel Lund Svindal.
American Bode Miller, 36, in his final downhill race, finished eighth.
