OK, so these singing actresses-who-sing claim to be not shy...but HOW not shy are they really? Eh? We found out...

TOTP: First of all, what are you, a TV show with a real life band offshoot or a band with TV show support, but not reality TV talent show type stuff or...MY HEAD HURTS! WHO ARE YOU?
Bryony: [Laughing] MY head is hurting too. Basically we auditioned as actresses that are musicians as well, to be in fictional TV show about girls trying to make it in a band. Polydor Records were involved in the project and wanted to launch a band as well, and thought it would be a fab idea to do it with Endemol and Channel Four with this fictional show going on. And we are the musicians out of it that can actually form a band for real.
Lauren: I was originally in a band for a couple of years in Liverpool. But it wasn't the direction I wanted to go in. And I'd only done extra parts before, like I'd only done acting at school. And then this arose and I got it and I did have a few lessons and stuff and just got the acting bug.

TOTP: So what's the ultimate reward, a BAFTA/Oscar, or a Brit Award/Grammy?
Lauren: [hyperventilating] Oh! That's SO HARD! I mean like a Grammy, would be unbelievable. I would SO love to get a Grammy, but at the same time I'd love a BAFTA too!
Hayley: Can I have an Oscar? I want an Oscar!

An Oscar. Any questions?

TOTP: OK, hang on, let me write this do...
Hayley: At least gimme a BAFTA! I acted before this job, that was my job. I was in bands as well, but I'd definitely want a BAFTA.

TOTP: On a scale of one to Robbie Williams, how shy are you, exactly?
Bryony: I'm probably sitting just under Robbie Williams, I'm not that shy at all.
Hayley: I would say I'm not as confident as Robbie, I'm probably about halfway through. I'm kind of...[thinks]...

TOTP: We've worked out a full scale, if you're interested.
All: Yeah!

TOTP: OK, one is Belle and Sebastian, two - Journey South, three - Dido, four - James Blunt, five - Coldplay, six - Oasis, seven - 50 Cent, eight - Lily Allen, nine - Red Hot Chili Peppers and ten is Robbie. So, Bryony, you said just under Robbie, which makes you 9.5, in between him and the Chilis.
Bryony: Excellent! What a lovely sandwich!
Hayley: I would say I'm between Lily Allen and Oasis.

Fiddy. Not shy.

TOTP: Ah! So you're 50 Cent?
Hayley: [laughs] Well, see, I haven't shot anyone, so I don't feel like 50 Cent. I'd probably be more Lily Allen, in that I have to stop myself from talking too much.
Helena: I love Lily Allen, I love what she's doing. I love her for the fact that she's just bold, and just OUT THERE and doing it. And she wears trainers and a dress and trashy gold earrings and doesn't really give a s*** and that's just cool. And I like her music as well, and she writes it.

TOTP: Well, let's put these ratings to the test. Would you feel shy if you sneezed and there was some follow-through, or would you just wipe it in your pocket and say "that's for later..."?
Bryony: Well, I do suffer from hayfever, so usually I've got a packet of tissues in my bag.

TOTP: BORING! What if you've run out?
Bryony: [Giggling] Well if there is actually snot all over my face, I would have to wipe it on my sleeve and hope nobody saw.

TOTP: I see. Now, are you shy about farting?
Bryony: Well, me and my boyfriend...I always have to try and gross my boyfriend out by trumpeting really loudly.

Parp!

TOTP: What kind of boy gets grossed out by blowing off?
Bryony: Well he's OK when it comes to him. But if I do it, he knows he's in for trouble, so he just, like, clears the area.

TOTP: What if someone opens the door when you're having a wee?
Bryony: I'd tell them to GET OUT! If it was public toilets I'd be like 'sorry! someone's in here!', if it was at home or a friend, it wouldn't phase me at all. I'd just be like 'hello!'

TOTP: What would you like to be seen reading when they burst in?
Bryony: Ooh! Something terribly intelligent! [Laughs] Like, erm, John Milton or something. I'd be like 'yes! I understand all of it!'

TOTP: I see. Now, celebrity shyness. Suppose you're at the premiere of Frank: The Movie...
Hayley: Frankworld, or something...

TOTP: Exactly, Frankworld... and you're wearing a low-cut dress, when suddenly something pops out, in what we're now all calling 'The Tara Reid Chestal Showoff'. What do you do?
Bryony: It depends. If everybody has seen it happen, the best thing to do is to address it, very casually and normally, as if it's the most natural thing in the world. Just acknowledge that you know that they know that everybody knows, and just get on with it. And not worry about it, and try not to make a big issue of it.

Reid!

TOTP: And then sack the stylist for not taping you in...
Bryony: Too right!
Hayley: Actually, I'm a bit handy, and in my handbag I tend to have a lot of...a lot of THINGS. I normally carry my Converse with me, cos I hate wearing high heels. So I wear them to special events and then I change into my Converse or my ballet pumps.

TOTP: [staggered] Converse OR ballet pumps? How big is your bag?
Hayley: [all in one breath] It is quite big. It's from Top Shop and it's silver, cos I'm in a bit of a Klaxons obsessive phase at the moment. So I like strong strong colours and really, it's a mad, mad bag. And it's HUGE. And I have two pairs of shoes in it, and I have a couple of tops. So I probably would have put on a top because I'm not popping out to ANYBODY.

TOTP: You certainly don't seem to be very shy...
Hayley: Well, I get shy with boys. There you go, you see, that's my Achilles heel.

TOTP: Yeah, bloody BOYS, eh? OK then, you're on a date, you go out, everything seems fine. Suddenly, as your hand passes your face, you realise that your breath STINKS OF DEATH! WHAT HAPPENS?
Bryony: [cackles] I think I'd probably order a drink that had a very strong flavour to it, to try and disguise the odour.

TOTP: As an adult, under what circumstances is it OK to send a friend over to someone you fancy to do the 'my mate fancies you' thing...
Bryony: Do you know what? I think that's always rubbish. If it was me, I'd make myself known to that person. I'd just be quite forward about it, cos what I've generally learned about men is that they never really get it unless you explain it to them with pictures and diagrams [laughs].
Hayley: You wait, and then you try and get eye contact, and then you look away. Or at least that's what I do. They do come up, but a lot of men are quite shy, and if they know you like them, you give them a little hint and they're there, aren't they?

Back away slowly...

TOTP: Yeah! Now, karaoke shyness...do you have a karaoke song?
Hayley: No. Actually...I sing along to the Klaxons, and Hot Chip. Do you know Hot Chip? I sing along to that all the time. I think life's too short to be shy, really.
Bryony: Well, I love karaoke, and if I can get a partner to do it with me, Meatloaf's 'Paradise By The Dashboard Light'. I love that. I'm generally s*** at karaoke, because it's never in the right key, and I haven't done my vocal warm-up...

TOTP: WHAT? How diva-ish is THAT? A vocal warm-up for karaoke? Really?
Bryony: [laughs] No, I know, it's terrible! I'm always up for having a good old croon at anything, really.

TOTP: What's worse, standing at the bar moaning to your mates about always being chatted up by blokes, or not being chatted up at all?
Bryony: Not being chatted up at all!
Hayley: It's much worse to not be chatted up, quite honestly.

See Danan...

TOTP: Given the choice, and the kind of interviews you've had to do since, would you call your song 'I'm Not Shy' again?
Bryony: Erm...probably not, cos if we did that then people would think it was the same song as before.

TOTP: YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN...would you rename it something bland so you don't get all silly questions?
Bryony: No, I like the silly questions. It gives us something to talk about.
Helena: I'm just enjoying it, really. It's nice because we've done loads of promo over the last few days and stuff, and now the single's coming out we can tell people what we REALLY think about it, and what's going on. That's pretty cool, really.

Run!

TOTP: Er...Helena? What DO you really think about it?
Helena: [immediately] I REALLY LIKE IT. I think it's a good vibe, type, happy pop tune. I love it. I would buy it anyway if I wasn't involved in it. But it makes it even more special that I am, obviously...
