New for 2008 – tours of the iconic home of the BBC!
Built in 1932, Broadcasting House was the UK's first ever purpose-built broadcast centre, and is now undergoing major restoration and modernisation – to complete in 2012.
However, we're opening our doors in advance of then, to show audiences and visitors what goes on behind those famous doors!
Tours which last approximately one and a half hours are focused around the newly restored Art Deco building, and feature famous heritage spaces as well as the latest digital workspaces. Walk the famous corridors and take a peek into the newly restored radio theatre, the council chamber and see into some of the radio studios used by your favourite Radio 3 and 4 programmes, including Woman's Hour, Desert Island Discs and In Tune. There is also the opportunity to have a go at making your own radio drama, complete with music and sound effects!
Tours of Broadcasting House are suitable for children 12 years and over; they last approximately one and a half hours and are currently held on Sundays. Please note that Broadcasting House is a working building and we cannot guarantee who or what visitors will see on the day of their visit. Further information for school parties (risk assessment) is available in pdf format on this page.
