International hospitality from Iceland to Bosnia
The Virgin Galactic spacecraft flies over San Francisco Bay. (Chris McGinnis)
As part of the festivities surrounding the grand re-opening of San Francisco International Airport’s mod Terminal 2 this week, Virgin America invited media and VIP's on a special flight out over the Pacific where we met up with the new Virgin Galactic spacecraft.
This shot was taken from a Virgin America A320 looking down on Sausalito, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. (See a one-minute video of the flight here.)
After flying around the Bay Area, both aircraft landed simultaneously on tandem runways at San Francisco International. Spectacular! We then taxied to Terminal 2 where a big reception and tour awaited.
Onboard notables: California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and Virgin Chairman Sir Richard Branson.
SFO's new Terminal 2 officially opens this weekend. It will be shared by Virgin America (headquartered here) and American Airlines. American's brand new Admirals Club includes pine trees (yes, they are artificial, but good artificial!) and a fireplace.
