Your days of playing Pretty Pretty Princess and prince charming have come and gone, but how have you replaced your royal musings as a — dare we say it — grown-up?

Just because you're not pretending to be royalty these days certainly doesn't mean you can't vacation like them. In fact, you should stay in a palace — nay, The Palace — with an all-inclusive one-night stay in a garden suite for two at The Palace at Playa Grande in Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic.

Choose to have your holiday between 15 June and 30 September ($275) or between 1 October and 15 December ($320). Either way, you'll be greeted with a welcome cocktail before you and your knight in shining armour are swept away to your immaculate room, featuring a four-poster bed with silk canopy — just the kind you imagined princesses sleeping under as a kid — a private bath and wireless internet.

Curtsy out onto the majestic 1,000-foot private beach, or indulge your royal curiosities by borrowing snorkelling equipment from the resort and visiting El Caletón Beach, a three-minute jaunt away. The Palace will even pack you a complimentary picnic lunch fit for a queen.

Don't feel like mingling with the masses? Opt for a tee time at the "Pebble Beach of the Caribbean": the world-class Playa Grande Golf Course is built right into the Atlantic coastline.

Or, retreat to the resort's regal on-site spa, where escapees receive a 10% discount on any service. Relax from the top of your crown to the tip of your glass slippers with a full-body massage, a facial, or even a private couples' massage in your suite.

Eat like a king when you enjoy your included meals en famille in the Grand Hall, or, take a locally inspired breakfast in bed.

There's nothing common about this escape into royal pleasure, but just as a disclaimer: sceptre and crown are not included.
