Can we be cabernet franc? You look like you could use a vacation.

But now is not the time to blush, just grab your bags and perhaps a corkscrew and head out to Sonoma wine country for your two-night stay at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel, all for the merlot price of $289.

Serving as your personal port in the storm, this hotel and spa is modelled after an Italian villa with its courtyard lounge and fire pit, sculpture garden, outdoor pool and extensive grounds that have been cultivated with the scent and splendour of everything from roses to wisteria.

Your suite comes complete with a king-size bed, a wet bar for your pinot grigio, bathrooms with double marble vanities, sitting areas and windows that open up to the sweet wine country air. You'll just have to come to grappa with being pampered.

But let's be claret: you did not come to Sonoma to hang out in your hotel room all day, no matter how lovely it may be. You are here to look at life through rosé-coloured glasses, out in the grape fields.

Fortunately, you are within reach of at least 200 vineyards, several of which will honour your included vouchers for tastings of wines that have won awards and recognition the world over.

Think outside the glass with a trip to Safari West, a Santa Rosa preserve on more than 4,000 acres that is "a miniature replica of an African safari, complete with wide-open spaces with roaming animals," says BBC Travel. "They call themselves the Sonoma Serengeti and, with more than 400 African mammals and birds, it is a fitting moniker."

And perhaps at the end of the day, enjoy one more glass over a tomato galette or roasted local halibut at the on-site Brasserie Restaurant with your $80 credit. But above all, do whatever it is you like to do because, as they say, que syrah Shiraz.
