The Mode Sathorn Hotel opens 1 April on Bangkok’s North Sathorn Road, south of the city centre. The 201-room hotel has six bars and restaurants, including a rooftop tapas lounge and an open-air pool and bar on the 11th floor terrace.
Also on 1 April, the season begins for the Mar I Muntanya (Sea and Mountains) trip, an eight-day self-guided cycling and cooking tour of Catalonia in Spain from Pure Adventures. The trip, which covers 30km to 50km a day, begins in the beautiful city of Girona and ends in the port town of Palamos. It includes three cooking classes, visits to a cheesemaker and fish market, route maps and cue sheets.
The ski season comes to a close in Austria with the Dance Café Arlberg music festival in Lech Zürs. From 1 to 21 April, après-ski will be dominated by jazz and swing music, with bands playing in the central hotels, bars and terraces.
The Capella Washington DC in the city’s Georgetown neighbourhood opens 3 April with 61 rooms and suites alongside the 19th-century C&O Canal. The rooftop bar has views of the Potomac River and The Kennedy Center, while the canalside restaurant The Grill Room has an outdoor dining area.
On 5 April the Legoland Hotel opens in San Diego inside the Legoland California Resort. The 250 themed rooms are modelled after three Lego toy lines: Pirate, Adventure and Kingdom, and all have two separate sleeping areas plus bunk and trundle beds. The hotel also has play areas and the Bricks Family Restaurant, with tablecloths to colour on and Lego-heavy decor.
The Great Northern Hotel, a grand Victorian railway hotel, will open near London’s Kings Cross station in early April after a £40 million refurbishment, part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Kings Cross area. Located between Kings Cross station and the Eurostar entrance at St Pancras International, the crescent-shaped, 91-room hotel houses the Plum and Spilt Milk restaurant overlooking the new King’s Cross piazza.
The Hotel Indigo Hong Kong Island opens 10 April in Hong Kong’s Wan Chai district. The hotel’s 138 rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows for panoramic views of the city, and the rooftop pool, which is lit up at night, cantilevers out above the streets below. The hotel also has a modern version of a Chinese tea house and sunken garden on street level.
