Last week, we asked our Facebook community to advise Elly Geven, who is looking to go on a horse trekking holiday with her teenage daughter. The trip should “preferably be several weeks, simple and not too expensive”.

Here are some suggestions from our Facebook fans:

From Sheila Durno: “Canada's Muskwa-Kechika area looks appealing.”

From Mia Martinez: “Iceland. Their horses' DNA has been embedded for hundreds of years, and of course it is a fantastic country with beautiful sights.”

From Sonam Chunku Tshoki: “Bhutan: the land of the thunder dragon.”

From Cecilia Bogaard: “I would recommend Ecuador. TerraDiversa has some fabulous horse treks I tried which I loved!”

From Daniel Garrido Rivera: “Barbate, La Breña y Marismas del Barbate Natural Park and Los Caños de Meca, Andalusia, Spain.”

From Vivek Sharma Mountain Cleaner: “Himalaya Dharamsala, Triund Hill, India.”

From Martina Krajňáková: “Slovenský ráj  [mountain range] in Slovakia is gorgeous!”

From Aneta Fornalska: “Bosnia and Herzegovina. Travel among the Dinaric Alps.”

From Bea Casales: “Patagonia in Argentina!”

From Natalie A Gerhardstein: “Why not do the Camino de Santiago on horseback?”

From احمد مصطفی کانجو: “Consider Central Asia or Mongolia."

From Cat Ballou: “Poland and its north-south region Polesia. Wild and beautiful!”

From Ayse Güven: “What about Turkey's phenomenal Cappadocia region, which has been popular with its horses and dramatic landscape for centuries?”

From Roompaddy: “Iceland in Europe or Estancia Los Potreros in Argentina. You won't get better!”

From Suman Thoker: “Treks can be arranged around the Jomsom-Muktinath [route], Mustang, Nepal.”

From Rachael Dexter: “Where ever you go, please make sure the animals are treated humanely and aren't overworked.”

From La Posta Hostel: “A 10 day horse trek to the Peninsula Mitre from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego [is] an amazing experience!”

From Behind My Eyeball: “Ireland – Connemara [is] beautiful, plus great food, music and people.”

From Selma Hilgersom: “Kazakhstan is the horse country to go to, definitely.”
