When to go
Seattle has mild, wet winters and dry summers that peak at 25°C. Visit in July and August for the huge Seafair water festival, which features hydroplane races, a torchlight parade and carnival (seafair.com).

British Airways flies from Heathrow to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (from £790; ba.com). Other UK services fly via Heathrow or US cities.
