    Nature’s comeback

    The Adirondacks, a protected park in northeast New York, is a wilderness of enfolding mountains, still waters and wetlands spanning six million acres – one-fifth of the state it resides in. Once blighted by logging and industry, the region has been revived and wildlife has rebounded since the park was established in 1892, and today is home to more than 2,000 miles of hiking trails, which comprise the largest trail system in the US.
