A quirky hipster hang out, Sydney’s Newtown neighbourhood, located 4km southwest of the central business district, pulses with old school style. Here, punk meets retro, rock music venues compete for patrons, and antique shops advertise transistor radios as if they were the latest technology. Local artists, like fashion student Yousef Akbar, add to the area’s eclectic vibe, mixing in a style of their own.
“Newtown is a great place to visit because it’s very young, cultural and always has things going on, especially related to art,” Akbar said. “If you’re a student like I am, it’s perfect because you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have fun.” (Megan Snedden)
