    It might not necessarily be pretty, but it certainly is daring. The second largest city in the Netherlands and home to one of the busiest ports in the world, Rotterdam’s noteworthy architecture combines modern and experimental elements to create an incredibly striking skyline.

    One of the city’s modern architectural accomplishments, the Red Apple, a residential building completed in 2009 and located on the Wijnhaveneiland, an island located in the middle of the River Maas, rises to a height of 120m and is characterised by a stylish eight-storey wedge structure jutting from the bottom of the tower.
