A bi-weekly round-up of new hotels and hideaways, treks and tours.

At the edge of London’s tony Belgravia neighbourhood, the Eccleston Square Hotel opens on 18 July. The boutique hotel is part of the Design Hotels family, and all 39 rooms in the two Georgian townhouses are decorated in sophisticated tones of black, white and gray. The hotel went hi-tech with VOIP and iPad 2s, and for fun, there is a wee Aston Martin Cygnet for guests who want to rent stylish, but compact wheels.

The influx of luxury hotels into Marrakech continues with the Four Seasons Hotel Marrakech which opened 17 June. Near the medina and the Menara gardens, the hotel is set in 40 walled acres of Moorish gardens — and every one of the 139 rooms and suites has a balcony that overlooks them.

The New Hotel in Athens opened 1 July amid a tension. The hotel is just off Constitution Square, the scene of many clashes and protests over Greece’s debt crisis. But the hotel creates a peaceful environment inside with three design schemes from the ever-inventive Campana brothers, who recycle cast-offs and found objects into works of art.

Another property in the Design Hotels family is opening in July, this one in Rovinj, Croatia. The large Hotel Lone will be on a wooded hillside near the Zlatni Rt national park on the Istrian peninsula, just a few minutes from the Adriatic sea.

The 58-room BLVD Hotel & Spa, which opened earlier this year in Los Angeles's Studio City, lives up to the latter part of its name this month. It will open three treatment rooms and provide a vast menu of spa services, from hot stone massage to citrus and sea salt body exfoliations.

Racing fans and horse lovers are now able to enter the members-only Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket, Suffolk. This storied club at the epicentre of British horse racing has opened for weddings and conferences and has made 18 “country house style” bedrooms available to non-members for two short periods in August (5 to 7 and 16 to 18 August) .
