Normally passengers don't cheer at the sound of a screaming baby, but that's
what happened Monday when a Filipino woman
gave birth during a flight from Manila to San Francisco. Now officials are
trying to determine
the nationality of the baby. According to a report by Fox News, the woman
was immigrating to the states and was hoping for the baby to be born in the US,
so it would gain automatic citizenship. But the baby’s citizenship depends on
where it was born: if the birth was over international waters, it will be a
Filipino citizen, if it was over US airspace, it will be an American.
Woman publishing scratch-n-sniff guide
to New York
In what could either turn out to be a brilliant idea or a complete stinker,
hotel concierge Amber Jones is releasing a scratch-n-sniff
guide to New York, the first in a planned series of scratch-n-sniff guides.
In an attempt to give an honest depiction of the city, the book — called New York, Phew York — will
include both good smells (mostly food) and bad (garbage, sewer steam and horse
manure). She has already received more than 450 orders of the $35 book, which
will be released at the end of November, the Guardian reports.
IHG announces low-price guarantee
In an effort to bring customers back to its own websites from booking giants
like Expedia, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) — the parent company of
Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn — has started the Book
With Us Advantage, Gadling reports. IHG is guaranteeing that travellers
will find the lowest prices through its website, and any guest who finds a
qualifying, lower room price for one of its hotels anywhere else on the
internet will receive the first night free, and the rest of their stay will
match the low price. Of course, in order to compare IHG prices with its
competitors, it's still a good idea to start with a large booking site.
