The Park Hyatt Sydney reopens
on 13 February after a full renovation, from the foundation to the roof, using
local materials such as sandstone and the native wood Spotted Gum. The hotel,
in the city’s Rocks district, is located on the harbourfront, and many of the rooms
and suites have floor-to-ceiling glass panes with views of the Sydney Opera

On a smaller scale, the boutique hotel Palihotel
Melrose Avenue opened 1 February in West Hollywood with 32 rooms
done up in a rustic, whimsical style and minibars stuffed with Dean &
Deluca goodies. The Palikitchen will open at the end of the month, a casual cafe
and coffee bar.
Also opened on 1 February is the Aloft San Jose, the
brand’s first property in Costa Rica. Located in Escazu, outside the capital of
San Jose, the hotel’s colourful rooms have Bliss beauty products and guests can
partake in standard Aloft features such as free wi-fi and a 24-hour pantry.
In New York, TRYP
New York City Times Square South opened on 7 February as the brand’s first US location. Room categories
range from “fitness” (stocked with a work-out machine and gear) to “family” (with
bunkbeds and Wiis for the kids). There is free wi-fi throughout the hotel.
The Bay Hotel Singapore opens 15 February, close
to the beaches of Sentosa Island and the green flanks of Mount Faber, with a
large outdoor pool and 333 rooms decorated in luxe textures and neutral tones.
