On 28 May, the Bulgari
Hotel and Residences, London opens in Knightsbridge, in a newly-constructed
building just across the road from the Mandarin Oriental and a few
steps away from Harvey
Nichols and Harrods.
The decor of the 85 rooms and suites recalls Bulgari’s silversmith history and
jewellery designs. The restaurant, Il Ristorante, serve Italian cuisine and the
two-floor spa has a 25m swimming pool hewn from Vicenza stone.
Blu Hotel opened on 10 May at the intersection of Broadway and
Canal Street, one of New York City’s busiest corners. The 70 rooms are
pint-sized and the lobby will double as the bar at night, but the hotel’s
location -- close to the city’s best shopping, restaurants and nightlife -- is
sure to appeal to guests.
On 26 May, the Four
Points by Sheraton Suzhou opens with 283 rooms and suites on the shores of
Dushu Lake near Suzhou, an ancient city on the Yangtze, less than an hour from
Shanghai. The hotel has a gym, spa, pool and large meeting facilities.
Art of Animation Resort opens 31 May in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, turning the
threat of swimming with the fishes into a treat. The supersized resort has
1,984 family suites and standard rooms based on four of Disney’s top animated
movies of recent years: Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Cars and The Little
Mermaid, plus multiple pools and playgrounds. Everything will be fully open by
The Hotel Palomar Phoenix
opens 5 June in downtown Phoenix’s Cityscape, a mixed-use shopping and
recreational complex. The Arizona hotel has 250 large rooms and suites
decorated in playful tones and textures, a third-floor open-air pool area that turns
into a lounge at night, and in-room spa services, as well as dog beds and food
for the traveller’s canine friends.
