Some English words have more than a dozen meanings and the word 'cast' is one of them.

It is a verb as well as a noun. You can use it in a literal way or metaphorically.

For example:

Fishermen cast their nets into the sea.

The cast of a show has nothing to do with a plaster cast in a hospital.
