More about Richard Angwin
Day in the life of Richard Angwin

Richard has been the regular face of weather in the West Country since 2000. He appears on BBC Points West and his voice is familiar to listeners of several BBC local radio stations.

His career as a weather forecaster began in Bristol in 1990. That was his first posting after many years as a weather observer at stations as far apart as Exeter and Honington (near Bury St Emmunds). 'A' levels, an HNC and an Open university degree in Earth Sciences were required to qualify for the Met Office's forecaster training programme and he prides himself on his local weather knowledge.

Richard tells us he enjoys the variety of work with the media, having presented weather forecasts whilst swimming, mountainboarding and even wingwalking on an aeroplane.

His dog Poppy, an eleven year old dalmation, makes occasional appearances on Points West. Richard is quite irked that Poppy gets far more fanmail than he does.

Away from work, Richard likes adventure and travel, and he combined the two to good effect in 2002, meeting his wife Renu whilst bungee jumping and whitewater rafting in Southern Africa. He is a less than enthusiastic runner but does enjoy half-marathons and is hoping to compete in his first marathon later in 2004.
