About the BBC Weather Centre
Michael Fish retires
Farewell Helen Young
Helen Willetts 'Best Weather Presenter'

Susan was born in Herefordshire and attended Aylestone School and Hereford Sixth Form College. She then moved to South Wales and studied Chemistry in the University of Swansea. Having fallen in love with Wales she then stayed on to complete a Doctorate of Engineering based in Materials Engineering and in conjunction with the steel maker Corus.

Following the commitment of four years extra study she spent time travelling around the world, visiting South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the States. Some of the highlights of this time were bumping into long lost friends on the other side of the world, ski diving and swimming with sharks!. When she returned she worked for Corus again before joining the Met Office as a trainee Broadcast Meteorologist.

Susan went through an intensive training programme - first completing the IFC meteorology foundation course at the Met Office training centre, and then following broadcast meteorology training at the BBC Weather Centre in April 2001. Since then she has also completed the FCC (meterology consolidation course) which completes the forecaster training. She began broadcasting from November 2001 and now broadcasts across a range of BBC channels.

Her interests still very much include travel - both in the UK and further a field. She is also passionate about food - eating out but also discovering new dishes to 'destruct' at home. When possible spare time is spent with friends, skiing, keeping fit and currently attempting DIY on her new home.
