Snowboarding is now well established alongside skiing and is particularly popular with younger snowsports enthusiasts. So if you want to carve some powder here are some top tips:
Safety
With the bad press about the danger of snowboarders and their attitude to the pistes, it is imperative that safety guidelines are followed.
Do not attempt the sport without instruction.
You must adapt your speed and manner of boarding to the prevailing conditions. This also applies to density of traffic. RESPECT OTHERS.
Choose your route carefully so you do not endanger others ahead.
It is essential to look carefully to right and left when changing direction, especially when starting a turn heelside: look backward.
The ability to ski does not automatically confer the ability to snowboard.
The front leg must be firmly tethered to the board by a safety strap.
Leave plenty of room when overtaking in case something happens you don't expect.
When entering a run or setting off again after stopping you must look up and down to make sure it is safe to start.
Don't stop in the middle of the piste - if you fall, quickly get out of the way.
Hike up the side of the mountain, not in the middle.
