UK Weather Review 01/10/2008 |
Last Five Days
30/09/2008 | |||
Showers spread southeastwards across the whole of the United Kingdom overnight and became heavy and persistent in places. They also merged to give some longer spells of locally very heavy rain, particularly across northwestern England, North Wales and down into the north Midlands. A more persistent band of rain also pushed down into northern and northeastern Scotland during the early morning, and then spread southwards into Northern Ireland and later also northeastern England during the afternoon and into the evening. Otherwise it was a day of sunny intervals and scattered showers, some of which were heavy. The showers turned thundery across England and Wales during the afternoon, with thunder reported in Mid Wales, the southern Pennines and Lincolnshire. It also became windy with strong northwesterly winds blowing in western parts. Gusts above 50 mph occurred on the Lancashire coast at Crosby. Afternoon temperatures were generally colder than average for the time of year and it felt distinctly chilly in exposed areas in that wind.
