UK Weather Review 02/10/2008 |
Last Five Days
01/10/2008 | |||
Scattered, locally heavy showers affected many areas overnight. It was chilly in the north, with minimum temperatures below freezing at Cairngorm, Aboyne and at Great Dun Fell. This was in comparison to a much milder night across the south. Scattered heavy showers spread southwards during the day, although parts of eastern England, especially the southeast, only had a few showers and so remained largely dry. Strong to gale force north or northwest winds also spread southwards, affecting northwestern areas of the UK, especially the coasts of Northern Ireland, northern and western Scotland and later Wales. Gusts of 55 kts occurred at Stornoway, Malin Head 61 kts and Aberporth 54 kts. Through the evening East Anglia and southeast England had only isolated showers, while remaining areas of the UK had frequent showers, sometimes heavy, although later parts of western Scotland became drier.
