During the night outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across much of the country. This was mainly light and intermittent in the south and east, although some heavy and persistent rain occurred in western Wales, northwestern England, Northern Ireland and southwestern Scotland. Scattered heavy showers fed into northwestern Scotland but northeastern Scotland stayed mainly dry. It also became windy in the west of England and Wales, with gales along some western coasts. Then during the day outbreaks of rain continued across England and Wales, with some heavy and persistent rain falling in western Wales and the northwest of England. Brighter weather with scattered showers gradually spread across Northern Ireland and Scotland, although the east and southeast of Scotland became mainly dry and experienced plenty of afternoon sunshine. It was a windy day, especially in exposed western areas. The afternoon temperature was generally a bit below average and it felt distinctly cool in the more exposed windy areas.
