Well above average rainfall across the majority of the UK, with East Anglia experiencing its wettest May (areal series back to 1914) with over 200 % of average May rainfall. Sunshine amounts varying from above average over Scotland and Northern Ireland to below average across parts of eastern England. The day-time maximum temperature of 7.9 °C at Heathrow on 28th was its 2nd coldest for May (records back to 1949), coldest on record being 7.5 °C on 1st May 1979. St Catherine's Point (Isle of Wight) reported a 24 hour rainfall total of 74.8 mm on 27th.
