Measuring Snowfall
A snowfall of 25 cm (10 in) is equivalent to approximately 2.5 cm (1 in) of rainfall.
You can also see how much rain is needed to make snow by collecting a measuring jug full of snow. Then if you melt it, you can see how the difference between snow depth and the corresponding amount of rainfall.
Why is it Important?
Depth can be measured easily with a simple ruler. Make sure the numbers start from the very end of the ruler, and try to find a place where the snow has not drifted in or out.
