Met Office Warnings Issued For: North Yorkshire

  1. Yellow warning of snow

    From:
    0200 on Thu 23 February
    To:
    1800 on Thu 23 February
    Updated 21 February at 10:07

    Warning

Snow is expected over high ground of northern England and Scotland on Thursday and may fall to low levels for a time in Scotland.
Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 cm are expected on some hills with 2 to 5 cm possible to lower levels to the north of the Central Lowlands. The largest accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are likely on highest parts of the north Pennines and Southern Uplands. In addition, strong winds are expected to develop with gusts of 50 to 60 mph. This will result in drifting of the snow and blizzard conditions over high ground. Associated heavy rain at lower levels will be an additional hazard.

The combination of snow, strong winds and heavy rain is likely to lead to disruption to transport networks and perhaps power supplies.

  2. Amber warning of wind

    From:
    0600 on Thu 23 February
    To:
    1800 on Thu 23 February
    Updated 21 February at 10:31

    Warning

Some very strong winds are expected throughout Thursday in association with storm 'Doris', with a short period where gusts of 70 to 80 mph are possible.

Whilst the strongest winds look to be only short-lived, damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks are likely, with a danger of injury from flying debris.Heavy rain is also likely through Thursday as well as some snow over high ground as the system clears eastwards. These may prove additional hazards.

  3. Yellow warning of wind

    From:
    0600 on Thu 23 February
    To:
    1800 on Thu 23 February
    Updated 21 February at 10:24

    Warning

Some very strong winds are expected during Thursday.

Gusts of 50-60 mph are expected widely across the warning area but a small swathe of even stronger winds may develop - most likely across parts of northern England, northern Wales and the north Midlands. Here a short period of gusts of 70 to 80 mph is possible, please refer to separate amber warning.Travel services could be affected including some restrictions on bridges and disruption to ferries. Some damage to buildings is also possible.

Heavy rain is also likely through Thursday along with some snow over high ground. These may prove additional hazards.
