Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English The International Olympic Committee has approved proposals to make sure men and women compete in equal number of track cycling events at the 2012 Olympics in London. In the last Olympics in Beijing there were seven male and three female cycling events. In the next Olympics there will be five events each for both sexes, meaning more participation by women. However, the changes have been criticised by many of the World's top cyclists, some of them women. Gold medal Olympic champion Rebecca Romero is not happy because the individual pursuit races which are a test of endurance, are not to be included in the 2012 Olympics to make room for more sprint races. She says it is 'ludicrous' to throw out such a long standing event. Tour de France champion, Luke Armstrong, also shares her opinion. The President of the Olympic committee, Jacques Rogge, says the new programme will improve the audience and popularity of the track. He says the changes are based on advice from the cycling's world governing body - the UCL. Another change in the 2012 Olympics is the introduction of mixed doubles tennis.
