صبي يوجه حركة الطائرات في مطار نيويورك

JFK airport

Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English!

USA officials are looking into how a young boy was allowed to direct planes at New York’s JFK airport.

The airport is one of busiest in the country handling nearly a thousand takeoffs and landings a day.

The child’s father, who is an air traffic controller, took his son to work during the school break.

The boy was heard giving pilots instructions for take off.

In one of the exchanges the boy says “Jet Blue 171 clear for take off” with the pilot responding “Clear for take off, Jet Blue 171”.

The Federation Aviation Administration which regulates American airports is now investigating the air traffic controller and his supervisor.

Both have been relieved of their duties.

Ray Lahood from the USA Department of Transportation says the incident showed “a lack of common sense and total disregard for the safety of people on the airplane”.

I think they need to change an airport administration becouse they don't care for human life and must the government punish all who responsipal for what happen and prevent that to happen again.

Saleh, Riadh

I don't think there was a danger because the boy was with his father and his father was telling him what to do. i think the father was trying to make his young boy happy but he was totaly wrong.

Ahmad, Saudi Arabia

I believe that the young child received the instructions from his father as a training to the boy more or less it is a very dangerous in a site like this no one must be allowed in except the workers.

Saad, Egypt

Well, I think the child didn't spoke by him self, I think his father (the air traffic controller) direct him in this, and if this is true, then (if we ignore the regulations) I don't see any harm in that.

Ali, Baghdad
